Institutional quality and the duration of agri‐food trade flows

Recent trade disruptions and their consequences on supply chains show the importance of stable relations for exporters' economic planning importers' security. Both instability in trading partners' institutional environment differences between them are likely to exacerbate these disruptions. We investigate role quality (IQ) its similarity with IQ stability links. focus links agri-food products exported from sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries European Union (EU-28) consider three dimensions IQ: ‘government selection, monitoring, replacement’; ‘efficiency policy formulation implementation’; ‘respect citizens state institutions’. Using a discrete-time duration model, we that SSA exports EU-28 increases higher IQ. The strongest impact is associated replacement’. In terms partners, institutions’ has largest durations. Our findings suggest improvement countries' may boost relationships. Moreover, IQs partners supports should be carefully considered when establishing new relations.
